Major vault protein (MVP), also called lung resistance-related protein is a ribonucleoprotein comprising a major part (>7%) of the vault particle.The human major vault protein (MVP) also known as lung resistance-related protein (LRP) represents the predominant component of vaults that may be involved in the defense against xenobiotics.The human major vault protein (MVP) has been implicated in the development of drug resistance in cancer cells.The major vault protein (MVP) has been implicated in multidrug resistance, cellular transport, and malignant transformation. Over expression of MVP has also been reported in brain tissue samples from antiepileptic drug (AED)-resistant human focal epilepsies.
