ITIH3 is involved in the stabilization of the extracellular matrix. A polymorphism (rs2535629) of ITIH3 showed the strongest association signal with susceptibility to psychiatric disorders in Caucasian populations.Common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in or near the inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain H3 (ITIH3) gene have been repeatedly associated with schizophrenia and related psychiatric disorders in genome-wide association studies.ITIH3 may be a useful biomarker for early detection of gastric cancer.
